High Gloss Ceilings
2017

Exhibition Text

High Gloss Ceilings is a business that has yet to be activated. It is a proposition that offers to paint a ceiling in reflective gloss paint. Ceilings are usually painted in the most matte of finishes, reflecting no light.

Is it subverting a canon of protocol?

Can a ceiling be subversive?

Absolutely not…. these are paintings in a room in a basement without a glossy ceiling.

The business model is fluid and branded based on how excited I get when I have no idea what the hell is going on. I have a fetish for being confused. Maybe you do too.

The paintings are indicators of this way of branding but certainly are very much about things. Mainly me and my new interest in politics.

Making non capital is juvenile and absurd but also necessary. These paintings act as themselves. They reference very little and are the thing reflected, not the surface that reflects. They act as objects of defiance and look at themselves in a self titled fiction, tasting their own sh__and se___. The images are PERSONAL and projections of all our best qualities. Contemplations of capitalism and all that other stuff. To be diluted into the large endless system of success and the need to pay rent. At least we (I) tried.

High Gloss Ceilings is a business started in June 2017. We will paint a ceiling in your home or office in a high gloss finish.

Why?

High Gloss Ceilings is a business that proposes that a standard of a trade be potentially subversive. A ceiling is normally highly matte reflecting no light.

At High Gloss Ceilings we believe nothing is actually subversive and activism isn’t based on having enemies.

It is aesthetic branding that is opposed to branding and has a feeling of undefined problems and substances. Mostly not unhappy, but can’t be called light, and would never be called excellent.

Here is what I am proposing…

It’s a pure reflection. One that you don’t have to look at. Can be highly discounted and barely visible if you choose. But also very clear.

High Gloss Ceilings does and will exist as a projection that one can imagine. A mirror like ceiling that reflects the static or moving objects in a room.

Quite, a beautiful image!
